Specimen notes
Voucher (DNA):
Leaves from 10 plants collected onto silica, PI01 and PI02 natural plants, PI03 - PI10 grown from cuttings and planted out. I collected samples of leaves from 10 Pimelea ignota plants from the planted population. Unfortunately, we do not have records of the parentage of the planted plants. They have been produced from cuttings from the original natural plants. I now know of only two natural plants, only a few metres apart. I sampled them both. As far as I know all the other natural plants have died since their discovery. Simon Walls found the first Pimelea ignota plants at Pilch Point in 1970. It was first described as a species in 2009 by Colin Burrows. Simon searched extensively for P. ignota in 2009 and 2010 and found 5 plants at Pilch Point and 2 plants at the Kaihoka Badlands. Only 2 of the 7 are still alive.
