Habitat:
Gravelly soil near the edge of the river terrace.
Notes:
Carmichaelia subgenus Suterella Simpson. Specimen plant 22 cm diameter grown at Otari for 4 years. The cultivated plant has many spreading branches all springing just above ground level form a single deeply penetrating taproot 6 mm thick - on what looks like a taproot! - thus differing from the subterranean branching habit of Carmichaelia uniflora var. suteri which it otherwise resembles. Examination of specimens in their natural habitat and of plants grown from seed seems necessary to determine with certanity the true growth habit. (W.B. Brockie).
