Habitat:
Wetland. Growing in saturated organic-dominated deposits overlying alluvial deposits. Growing as a cluster and several scattered outlier plants on a small flat 'island' (c. 0.15 ha) between branches of the main stream draining through Hydra Waters Wetland. This island appears to have escaped previous (historical) burning and now supports a significantly greater proportion of woody scrub and shrub land vegetation than occurs off the island nearby. The soils are continuously saturated and prone to occasional shallow inundation, but nevertheless stable.
Microhabitat:
Growing in an open area alongside scattered Chionochloa rubra ssp. cuprea tussocks with scattered or locally dense Discaria toumatou, Olearia bullata and Coprosma propinqua, Coprosma intertexta and Olearia lineata occur nearby. Dense Chionochloa rubra with widely scattered emergent Coprosma propinqua, Olearia bullata and Carmichaelia australis dominates the tussockland canopy around the island.
Notes:
Female plants were carrying abundant bright red fruit.
Population size: A loose cluster of c. 10 plants within a 10 m radius.
