Conf.: H. Maule, 16 May 2025. The fruit has 7 compartments, (like H. sexstylosa) with one seed in each, and the ovary is clothed in golden hairs.
The flower is 25 mm wide (suggesting H. populnea).

Habitat:
Site is a gentle north facing slope with a canopy of very old and tall Pinus radiata and Cupressus macrocarpa. The understory is considerably dominated by Hoheria populnea.
Notes:
The sample was collected from a mature tree whose main stem has a DBH of 20.9 cm with 3 sizable attachments. Foliage on the tree was slightly drooping and stood out in contrast to the H. populnea trees surrounding it.
