Vegetation cover: Chionochloa crassiuscula subsp. crassiuscula (c. 35%), Dracophyllum politum (25%), Raoulia goyenii (10%), rock (5%), Poa colensoi (3%), Astelia linearis (2%), Bulbinella gibbsii var. gibbsii (1%), Dolichoglottis lyallii (1%), Carpha alpina (1%), Schoenus pauciflorus, Celmisia clavata, Chionochloa rigida subsp. rigida, Olearia colensoi, Veronica hectorii, Carex petrieii and other species.
Phenology: The plants had recently finished flowering. The flowers were past and seed was present.
The Craspedia also extended into seepage sites where it was locally abundant. In this habitat it was associated with Chionochloa crassiuscula ssp. crassiuscula, Carpha alpina, Bulbinella gibbsii var. gibbsii, Schoenus pauciflorus, Astelia sp. aff. nervosa, A. linearis, Celmisia durietzii, Dracophyllum politum and byrophytes. Associated minor species include Veronica odora, V. pauciramosa, V. hectorii, Coprosma cheesemanii, Olearia colensoi, Gaultheria depressa var, novae-zelandiae, Dolychoglottis lyallii, Poa colensoi, Gentianella gibbsii, Anisotome aromatica var. flabellifolia, Agrostis pallescens, Deyeuxia avenoides, Gonocarpus aggregatus, Celmisia sp. gracilenta rhizomatous, Leptinella squalida, Deschampsia sp. and Juncus pusillus.
