Habitat:
Locally established along the open margin of a small wetland. Growing as discrete plants (occasionally clustered) emergent through exotic grasses and mosses. The area is subject to occasional light grazing by sheep, which suppresses exotic grasses. The wetland lies near the base of a hill-slope supporting black beech forest, which would originally have graded into wetland swamp forest dominated by kahikatea and pokaka on adjacent flatter surfaces (such as the wetland location).
Microhabitat:
The wetland margin is an ecotone dominated by Eleocharis acuta, Myriophyllum triphyllus, Ranunculus glabrifolius and Lilaeopsis ruthiana (on wetter side) grading to Lobelia angulata, Gonocarpus micranthus and Gratiola concinna (on intermediate scraped surfaces), to exotic grasses (on drier un-scraped surfaces, where Euchiton involucratus occurs). Other flora growing sporadically beside Euchiton involucratus includes exotic grasses (particularly Agrostis sp.), Celmisia gracilenta (rhizomatous wetland form), Euchiton limosus, Hypericum pusillum, mosses (particularly Calliergon cuspidatum) and Leptostigma setulosum.
