This specimen is possibly a hybrid between C. kirkii and C. pterocarpa, maybe a backcross to C. kirkii?. The glumes are short and wide and the utricles are faintly papillose and not deeply nerved, also the beak is not tapered enough for C. kirkii.

Compact habit; dense clump of dark glossy green leaves; leaf-blades involute. The male flowers are terminal in the spikes and there are 2 anthers/flower. Carex pterocarpa is not far away on the slope adjacent. Collected mature seed still present; new buds just appearing.
