Ridge in valley, fairly light, medium sized forest.
Notes:
Clump-forming fern with stout petioles that are attached to the caudex over a small area (unlike Angiopteris evecta growing with it); caudex becoming purple and edible when cooked. Leaves with stipes rather abruptly curving horizontally. Basal pinnae opposite (unlike Angiopteris evecta); all pinnae very glossy, dark green above and with prominent lateral parallel veins. Sori marginal. Fairly common, growing with Angiopteris evecta, and at the lower part of its altitudinal range.
Observed species:
Angiopteris evecta
