Habitat:
Valley slope on T. left of stream, above stream-bed. Canopy species include Kanuka, Kauri, Kohekohe, Rewarewa, Nothofagus truncata, with Ponga and Nikau in lower canopy and understorey.
Habitat modification: Regenerating forest, logged, burnt and farmed in 1880s and 1890s. Land use: Nature Reserve (est. 1896). Landform: Island. Geology: Volcanic. Soil colour and texture: Organic, Clay Loam, Aspect: W., SW. Slope: 20-25 degree slope. M. fulgens growing on ponga (tree fern) trunks and fallen trees / branches in an area of open canopy on sunny, west-facing slope.
Notes:
Vine growing on tree trunks, fallen branches and ponga. Large oval leaves, reddish flowers and large seed capsules.
