Habitat:
In deep shade. Corticolous at 1-1.2 m height on the exposed buttress roots of kahikatea (Dacrycarpus dacrydioides) trees growing within a dense kahikatea forest remnant. Site shaded and damp for most of the year. Kahikatea roots exposed due to gradual drying out of forest interior due to forest remnant being surrounded by intensively farmed pasture.
