K.W.A. [Allison KW], 1963
Type:
Macromitrium grossirete C. Müll., Hedwigia 37: 153. 1898. Type: "Nova Seelandia, insula sept., N. Canterbury, Pattersons Creek, Weimacariri Gorge, ad truncos arborum: T.W. Naylor Beckett 1892 leg. et misit." (Lectotype - CHR - Beck) Note: Lectotype chosen is No 395, April, 1892 as it matches C. Müller's description fertile material in packet, not No. 295, April 1892 "Names by Dr Karl Müller in litt 11 Dec. 1892" - This latter specimen is typical M. ligulare Mitt. and does not match Müller's description. The two specimens, both from the same locality were confused; Müller was obviously describing No 395 - grossirete, not ligulare.
