Habitat:
Sand dune, above south-facing beach.
Notes:
Small succulent shrub to c. 30 cm high, rather bushy. Main stem c. 7 mm thick. Leaves to c. 4 x 1.8 cm, ± oblong-obovate, light green except for dark red margins and apical area, ciliolate. Inflor. erect, with narrow elliptic, dark red leaves and branches. Flowers in dense corymbose panicles to 6 cm or more across, somewhat scented. Calyx lobes 2-2.5 mm long, triangular-lanceolate, dark red. Petals c. 6 x 2 mm, elliptic-oblong, white; upper ½ or more reflexing; with subapical appendage. Stamens subequal to petals; filaments white; anthers yellow. Styles becoming red. Scales yellow, 0.4-0.5 mm wide, ± transversely-oblong. A solitary plant.
