Habitat:
Moderately steep hill country. Ex-goat farm which was periodically burned. Now predominantly tauhinau/coprosma scrub with large areas of rough pasture. Areas of relatively advanced secondary broadleaf forest (mahoe, VER par, mamaku, five finger etc) in gullies. Some areas of gorse, manuka and kanuka also.

Supplementary remarks:
leaf sheaths glabrous. lemma 9.2 mm, awn c. 5 mm, u.g. = 7.5 mm (7-nerved), l.g. - 6.0 mm (5-nerved). Palea > ¾ length of lemma but does not = it. Anthers c. 1.7 mm.
