HOLOTYPE of Ranunculus depressus Kirk var. stewartiae Simpson et J.Thomson, Trans. & Proc. Roy. Soc. New Zealand 73: 155 (1943). Wilson, H.D.; Garnock Jones, P.J. New Zealand J. Bot. 21: 345 (1983) believed this specimen to have been mislabelled as the species it belongs to, Ranunculus simulans Garn.-Jones, does not occur on Stewart Island.
