Notes:
Clump - forming bromeliad with the lower part of leaf rosette forming a broad cylinder c. 3 cm diam. Leaves curving outwards above lower part, coriaceous, remaining concabe, strongly transversely banded with white farina above otherwise dark green, mainly white farinose beneath except for a few dark green transverse lines or bands. Inflor. arising from centre of rosette; peduncle to c. 30 cm long, brownish-pink with dense floccose farina. Bracts bright pink with some white farina. Inflorescence 8-10 cm long, cone-like, with a dense spiral of pungent-tipped, erect or suberect bracts. Calyx 10-11 mm long, light pink, sepals ± triangular, rigid. Corolla c. 2.5 cm long; rose except for the whitish almost filiform tube; lobes broad elliptic but remaining concave, c. 1 cm long.
