This plant was grafted onto H. angustifolia from plant material obtained from a large and mature tree growing on the outskirts of Ashburton. There is the possibility that the Ashburton plant was planted by, or at least sourced from, H. H. Allan given that he once lived in the Ashburton area and worked on Hoheria hybrids at Mt Peel.
