Locally common (>50 plants in collection area) prostrate to decumbent herb with branches to 35 cm high. Plants stoloniferous to rhizomatous (new silt deposited in area so difficult to determine whether one or other or both) with a number of white roots from lower nodes. Stems green to pink-brown. Leaves mid green, slightly paler on lower surface, midrib pale green and obvious, margins with widely spaced short teeth. Flowers appear to have around 8 stamens and staminodes, most flowers with 3 or 4 stamens that have greenish white filaments and yellow anthers. Ovary green with a yellow stigma. Fruit obcordate and green to white or pale brown at this time. Bracts white. Tepals lacking hairs towards base on outer surface. Live material of this collection was sent to Gary Houlistan (CHR). According to Gary this species has a different ITS sequence to all other currelntly recognised Australian and New Zealand Alternanthera spp. (examples were sequenced of all currently recognised species in Australia and New Zealand).
