Notes:
Locally common (>30 plants in collection area, but common in other ephemeral wet areas alongside railway line to the west of this location) erect herb with branches to 40 cm high. Plants with large thickened vertical white roots. Ground hard at this time so difficult to see if horizontal roots are involved at depth. Stems pink to green. Leaves mid green, erect to spreading, slightly paler on lower surface, midrib pale green and obvious, margins with widely spaced short teeth. No flowers at this time. Fruit obcordate and maturing pale brown. Bracts white. Tepals lacking hairs towards base on outer surface. Same location (more accurate distance this time) and species as J.R.Hosking 2178. Live material of this collection was sent to Gary Houlistan (CHR). According to Gary this species has a similar ITS sequence to plants named Alternanthera nodiflora R.Br from Australia and Alternanthera nahui Heenan & de Lange in New Zealand.
