Notes:
Locally common with Gahnia lacera, Hebe stricta var. stricta, Leucopogon fasciculatus, L. fraserii and other coastal shrubs on open rhyolite talus. Plants with a low, spreading shrub-habit, leaves and branchlets distinctly hairy, leaf buds in this population all without sinus. Flowers initially dark lilac fading to white. Hebe pubescens is locally common from Rapatiotio Point north to near Orokawa Bay. None of the plants we examined had a leaf bud sinus- otherwise in all other respects they match H. pubescens subsp. pubescens.
