Crest of basalt hill, among grassland and Coprosma-Dracophyllum scrub; in moist soil with Carex and Juncus, and also in thin soil among shattered rock, with lichens and mosses.
Notes:
Flowers white. Large plants in moist ground: longest leaf 8cm, sometimes 12cm, scape 20-34cm, head 17-21mm diameter. Small plants in thin soil: longest leaf 4cm, scape 6-12(-17)cm, head 9-16mm diameter. Leaves green, petiole reddish purple. Both leaf surfaces have very short, frequent, stubby non-glandular hairs. Leaf underside also has very scattered, multicellular, non-glandular hairs. Some small plants in open sites have glandular hairs on leaves and on scape; these plants are sticky. Rosettes almost always single, occasionally 2-3 together on large plants in most shade and wetness.
