Clump-forming species; rhizomes running a little only. Culms to c.3m high, dark green, white powdery ring beneath nodes when young; culms erect to top. Culm sheaths light brownish-green, unspotted; auricles and bristles O. Leaves shining deep green above, glaucous beneath, densely covering branches.
