Duplicate from Eastwoodhill Arboretum Herbarium Ngatapa, Gisborne, New Zealand. EWH. Altitude: 120m-297m. Aspect: south west slope, near top of ridge. Partially shaded. Open situation. Small shrub, 1-9m tall. Open form, sparsely branched. Bark glossy mid-brown on older wood, dark red-brown on younger branches. Fine down on branchlets. Alternate. Leaves mid-green glossy upper, lighter green dull underneath. Younger leaves red-margined. Sharp spikes at end of branchlets on older wood and in leaf axil. Sheets A and B.
