Note:
This is not a Pohlia, but I am unsure of what it might be. It bears slight resemblance to a Climacium (note the spines at the rear of the costae) but it lacks paraphyllia and clearly does not belong to that genus. Could it be aberrant material of a Hynodendron s.l.? I can't think of any other possibilities at present.
Jon Shaw previously (about 1990??) tentatively considered this material to represent a species of Pohlia unknown for New Zealand, and he termed it "Pohlia species Y". His opinion is not accepted by me.
