Supplementary remarks:
Under the hand lense [lens], this looks very similar to the Arrowtown Tortula. The habitat is identical. I may have the same plant from Lake Hawea & Lake Wanaka at the Neck.
JT Linzey, 27/2/66

Leaves oblong, narrowing gradually to an acute apex above; margins entire, flat or slightly recurved. Cells above 20-25µ, hexagonal narrower towards the margin forming an indistinct margin there; lower cells larger oblong & hyaline, bordered with long narrow cells, smooth (not papillose) Nerve 50-100µ at base, excurrent in awn 15-40µ long, greenish, reddish with age. Apparently synoicous (saw 1 anterhidia?) Seta to 2 cms( 1-2 cms) but usu shorter smooth Capsule narrowly cylindrical ca 2 mm long Peristome ca 1 mm long, basal entire length ca ½ mm. Calyptra & operculum absent.
