Steep open bank of exposed loess just above road. Wild.
Notes:
Succulent arborescent shrub with trunk to c.70-80cm high to 2cm thick; scars narrow & brown; rosettes of lvs on the moderate number of branches, to c. 11cm. across and incurved (not flattened) Lvs to 9x2.7cm obovate-spathulate, c. 3 mm thick, green, flat with faint keel on back; margin green. Supplementary remarks:
except for red upper part, red apiculate. Infl. to c. 18 × 20 cm, glabrous; fls secund. (Infl more like A. haworthii in being wider than long). Calyx lobes 2.8-3.5 × 1.2-1.8 mm, triangular. Petals (8) - 9- (10) in no. 8.5-9.3 × 2.5-2.8 mm, ± narrowly lanceolate- elliptic, cream. Stamens 8.2-8.8 mm long, cream. Carpels whitish green. Scales c. 0.8 - 1mm long, ± rectangular-cuneate, white; apex retuse-truncate. See Sykes 236/87 for frequency.
