Habitat:
Steep west-facing slope in Macaronesian scrub. +/- Adventive.
Notes:
Small much-branched shrub with main stem c.8mm diam, rough outside. Rosettes terminal on short lateral branches to 7cm across, not very flat. Leaves to 3.6xl.7cm, obovate-spathulate, 4-5mm thick, slightly concave above and keeled below, ± green, with prominent purpleish-red margin; apex apiculate. Infl. stem c. 30cm long; bracts being dehisent when collected (c.1/2 fls out), the only A. haworthii with fls at anthesis seen. Branches and calyx pink or greenish pink, glabrous. Calyx lobes 2.5-3.5-(4)mm long triangular. Petals 8-9in no. 9-11xc. 2mm narrowly elliptic or linear-lanceolate, cream, acute. Stamens 7-9mm long, white (anthers cream) outer whorl longer than inner. Scale rectangular or rectangular-cuneate, nearlt 1mm long, truncate to ± retuse, translucent. Carples white, styles c. 4mm long.
