West-facing slope on cliff edge. Naturalised.
Notes:
Arborescent shrub with "trunks" to c.80cm high (including sub-inflorescence stem) and c. 2 cm diameter, with lozenge-shaped brown scars. Lvs in terminal rosettes on short lateral branches; main trunk rosette developing as an inflorescence. Leaves on lateral branch rosettes to 8.5x3.5cm, and 3-4 mm thick, obovate-spathulate, green, ± flat above and beneath, regularly ciliolate margins; apex mucronate. Infl. to 20 × 17 cm, broadly ovoid-pyramidal with a ± obtuse apex, glabrous. Bracts dehiscent below infl. by maximum flowering but ± green amongst infl. branches.Sepals c. 3 mm long, triangular, acute. Petals 9-10, 9-9.5 × 2.3 - 2.5 mm, ± linear-lanceolate, pale greenish-yellow, apex subacute. Stamens of 2 lengths, but all with abortive anthers and no pollen; outer stamens 7-8 mm long, inner ones often 5-6 mm; all pale greenish-yellow, usually with upper part of the filament very constricted; length and constrictions showing degeneration. Carpels 7-8 mm long, greenish-white; styles c. 3mm long. Scales c. 1.5 mm long, whitish, ± rectangular and apex erose-truncate.A small population mixed with A. arboreum Sykes 214/87, and apparently spreading a little down the slope. A. undulatum and A. haworthii in the area.
