Mangatawhiri is in South Auckland, near Pokeno, with a river and water supply dam all thus named. There is also a hill nearby, but the hill is not named on topography maps.
Two Mt Maungatawhiri found: one near Dargaville (North auckland), and one north of Whitianga on the Coromandel Peninsula (South Auckland)
