Subwoody plant c.1m tall; badly eaten by insects; corolla yellow with dark red spots at base, calyx deep red, fleshy used to make drinks and jelly with sour taste, leaves edible cooked but sour. (Occasionally cultivated but not frequently.) Stem red, petioles red at both places of attachment.Tongan name: "lasapele".
