Notes:
This specimen only matches Gentiana gracilifolia as identified by T.F. Cheeseman. Looks more like a slender form of Gentiana vernicosa, leaves about half the size (approximately 1cm long and 2mm wide in the Type), but glossy texture exactly as in Gentiana vernicosa. The slender form (as represented at Dominion Museum), has single flowered scapes, not corymbs of 3 to 5. May be constant. "Turf forming habit" ? No specimens seen at dominion Museum or Botany Division show any evidence of turf-forming habit. But see a specimen in "South Island Gentiana bellidifolia" folder of Botany Division - CHR 28813. This plant was seen growing on Mount Peel, Nelson (but not collected). It certainly forms patches of turf, up to 30cm diameter, close dense and about 5cm deep. Necessary to see field notes on T.F. Cheeseman's own specimens.
