rugose-leaved form. M.spicata is a tetraploid (2n=48). In leaf-form this plant is tending towards on of its diploid ancestors M.suaveolens Ehrh (=M.rotundifofia auct.non (L.) huds.)

This is a common mint in N.Z and seems to be of a mild clone and yet is fertile. A plant from the vacinity of this specimen was found to have 2n=48 chromosomes.
