Notes:
Specimens of a Carmichaelia from three [different] shrubs in the open up to six feet tall or more, together with some of the seeds collected from a number of bushes. The only possible fit among the four Carmichaelias in Arnold Wall's list at the end of his Botany of Christchurch is Carmichaelia subulata, but Allan's Carmichaelia virgata is unsatisfactory as the peduncles and pedicels are pubescent and not glabrous and the branchlets are far from being more or less terete in any of the plants I looked at. Of the sound pods about 50% were 1-seeded, or 2-seeded. A large numner had weevil grubs or adults. This may be related to the remark under incertae sedis for Carmichaelia subulata about "immature or partly monstrous pods". Signed John Martley, 30 January 1964. [A letter to John Martley, from L.B. Moore dated 3 Febuary 1964, is attached to this herbarium sheet.]
