Notes:
Extract from letter 28 Oct.1963 from Mrs J. Lawrence, 25 Fell St, Blenheim: 'quite an extensive patch of irises growing just above the water line, behind a margin of coarse grass. It was at the verge of the native bush, and appeared to be very healthy. The roots had been partly covered by sandy mud from a stream that had apparently flooded in the rains, but the colony of irises had more than held their own with the grass. This particular area is a scenic reserve, fortunately. The area at the moment is very dry indeed... Double Bay is not many miles from Ship's Cove, where Cook's botanists..'
