Notes:
Rhizome short. Leaves numerous, tufted, 1-2 ft long 1/6 - ⅓" wide, rigid, coriaceous, striate; margins minutely scabrid. Flowering stem longer or shorter than leaves, with one or two cauline leaves. Panicle broad. Flowers 2-10, large, white. Perianth ½-1" diam. 3 outer segments oblong, elliptic, greenish on outside, 3 inner larger, broader, orbicular, pure white. Capsule broadly oblong or obovoid.

Habitat: North, South, Stewart, Chatham Islands: Abundant from North Cape southwards in open forests. Sea level to 2000ft. Flowers October - December Common name: Tukouki.
