Habitat:
Manuka scrub. Several plants 10 feet high.
Notes:
Presence of small hairs at base of leaves and sinus in some buds suggests aff. with pubescens.

Supplementary remarks:
I am unhappy with the circumscription of H. pubescens its affinities with H. stricta var macoura and taxa labelled as aff. pubescens from Great Barrier. This plant I would call H. stricta var. macroura because it has rounded calyx lobes, pubescence in not especially obvious and the sinus is not a very good diagnostic feature (I have seen it in H. stricta). However only detail research will resolve this group and this will require live plants. I have collected such material from Cuvier Isl as stricta var. macoura (see CHR) and forwarded plants to Dr B.D. Clarkson. I await his conclusions on this group with interest.
